Mrs Tyers

The Mambakkam Main Road is always packed these days. Since Medavakkam has grown so much, there’s never a moment when cars aren’t rushing past our door at 1/196. Mrs Tyers is right there on the edge of all that movement. It’s a dusty spot, mostly because of the road construction and the constant traffic kicking up dirt. We spend most of our day outside or near the front, dealing with the heat and the noise. It’s not the kind of place where you’d find a plush waiting room with magazines. Instead, there’s a couple of plastic chairs and a lot of rubber. We’ve got stacks of things all over the place, and the floor is usually marked up from all the work. Most of the people who stop by are in a hurry, trying to get back on the road, so we’ve learned to work fast. It gets pretty hot in the afternoons, especially when the sun hits the pavement, but we have a fan that does its best. We know the other shop owners along this stretch of Medavakkam, and we usually look out for each other. It’s a tough, honest way to make a living, and we don’t pretend it’s anything else. No big slogans here, just a lot of hard work and the smell of the road right outside our front door.
