Baba Furniture & Wood Works

Our shop is at number 116 on North Redhills Road in Villivakkam. If you’ve ever been down this road, you know how loud and crowded it can get with the traffic and people moving around. The shop itself is usually filled with the smell of sawdust and cut wood. We have stacks of planks leaning against the walls and various pieces of furniture in different stages of being finished. It is a bit of a cramped space because wood takes up so much room, but we know where everything is. We spend most of the day measuring things out, cutting them to size, and then sanding them down until they look right. There is always a layer of dust on the floor by the afternoon, no matter how much we sweep. People from the neighborhood stop by to ask about repairs or getting something specific made for their homes. We don't use high-end machines for everything; a lot of it is just hand tools and old-fashioned effort. The noise from the saws can get pretty loud, so it’s hard to hear the phone when it rings. We’ve been in Villivakkam for a long time, and we see the same faces walking past our door every morning. It’s honest work that leaves your hands rough, but seeing a finished cabinet or a solid table at the end of the week makes the long hours on North Redhills Road feel okay.
