Velumailu Siddha Medical College

Velumailu Siddha Medical College is located at No.48 on Gwt Road in Sriperumbudu. We’re in the Nenmeli area of Kancheepuram, which is a place with a lot of history. The college itself focuses on Siddha medicine, so you’ll often find the smell of various herbs and traditional preparations drifting through the air. The building is a functional space with clinics and classrooms that see a lot of use throughout the week. It’s not a shiny, modern hospital; it looks and feels like a place where traditional learning happens. The students spend a lot of time with their books and also doing practical work in the treatment areas. We have a lot of patients coming and going, which keeps the atmosphere quite busy and grounded in real life. The staff are usually tied up with paperwork or helping students understand the old texts. We have a few patches of garden where we grow some of the plants we talk about in class. The traffic on the road outside can be loud, but once you get into the back rooms, it’s quite calm. We don't put on any airs here. It’s just a place to study a very old form of medicine and keep those practices going in a modern world. It’s hard work, and the days are usually long, but the people here seem to enjoy the routine. We just keep the lights on and the clinics open.
