If you’re ever heading down ECR Main Road, you might see us at 5A Muthukadu Road. We’re really close to the Marundeeswarar Temple in Thiruvanmiyur. Urbanchettinad Restaurants started because we missed the way food used to taste back in the village. Chennai is a big city, but we wanted to keep that Chettinad style going without making it look like a plastic fast-food place. It gets quite breezy here because we're near the coast, which is nice when the kitchen gets hot. We’ve got a small crew and we all do a bit of everything, from washing dishes to serving guests. Sometimes we run out of certain items because we only make enough for the day. We don't like wasting stuff. The temple crowds keep us busy on weekends, so those days are a bit more chaotic than the rest of the week. We didn't spend much on decorations or anything like that. We just put in some tables and chairs and started cooking. It's an honest living and we enjoy seeing familiar faces walk in. It feels good when someone says the spice level was just right. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just trying to cook the food we like to eat ourselves. If you’re visiting the temple, we’re just a short walk away. It’s a simple setup for simple food that hits the spot when you're hungry.
