About Thiraviam Ceramics – Housewares & Supplies in Chennai
We have been here at 11, Jawaharlal Nehru Salai for a good while now. Arumbakkam is always moving and the noise from the street is just part of the day. Most mornings, I am just moving boxes around or checking what we have left in the back. It is hard work on the back and shoulders. Sometimes the ceramics get chipped in transit, which is always a real pain to deal with. We have to be very careful with the heavy ones. People walk in from the street looking for a single tile to fix a leak or a whole set for a new bathroom. It gets quite hot in the afternoons here. I usually keep the fan on high, but it mostly just moves the warm air around. The shop isn't fancy at all. It has some old posters on the wall and too many boxes stacked in the corners. My tea comes from the small stall down the road every morning around ten o'clock. It is much better than the coffee I try to make at home. Arumbakkam traffic is a nightmare, especially when the big trucks are trying to drop off new stock in the middle of the day. You have to shout over the horns just to be heard. I don't mind it much though. It is just how things are on JN Salai. Most of our neighbors are decent folks who look out for each other.
