Surabhi Engineering

Our workshop, Surabhi Engineering, is located at No: 14-A on Ganapathy Nagar First Street in Ekkatuthangal. It’s a quiet enough street compared to the main roads, which I like. We started out with just a couple of machines and a lot of hope, and we’ve just stayed here ever since. We do mostly general engineering work, taking on whatever comes through the door. Some days it’s just small repairs, other days we are building something from scratch based on a rough sketch someone gave us on a piece of cardboard. The floor is concrete and usually covered in metal shavings, no matter how much we sweep. We have a small crew of workers who live nearby, so it feels like a real neighborhood business. I usually sit at a small wooden desk in the corner to handle the accounts, but I’d rather be out there working on the machines. The weather in Ekkatuthangal can be tough, especially when it rains and the street gets a bit flooded, but we just keep the shutters down and keep working. We don't have any big signs or fancy lighting, just our name painted on the wall outside. People find us because they know we’ve been here for a long time and we don't try to charge for things they don't need. It’s just honest work that keeps us coming back every morning to see what the day brings.
