We have been here in West Mambalam for a good while now. The office is small, just enough for a desk and a couple of chairs for people to sit while they wait their turn. Chennai traffic is no joke, especially around the station area, and that is where we do most of the training. Our cars aren't brand new, but they work fine and the clutches are adjusted so they don't stall too easily for the beginners. Usually, the mornings start around 6 AM because that is when the roads are a bit quieter for the new learners to get a feel for the steering. By midday, it gets really hot inside the cars, so we take a break and then start again in the evening. Most of the people who come to us live right here in the neighborhood. They just walk in after seeing the board outside. We spend a lot of time explaining the gear shifts and how to look in the mirrors properly. Sometimes the students get nervous when a bus comes too close, but that is just how driving in Chennai goes. We handle the paperwork for the licenses too, which means going back and forth to the RTO office quite a bit. It is a lot of waiting around in lines, but it gets done eventually. We just keep things moving one day at a time here near the main market area.
