Sri Murugan Engineering Works

You’ll find us at 47 Poonamallee Road in Ekkaduthangal, right in the heart of the Gandhi Nagar area. Sri Murugan Engineering Works is a place where there is always the sound of metal hitting metal or the hum of a lathe machine running in the background. It’s hot in here most of the time, especially when we’re doing a lot of welding or cutting. The floor is stained with oil, and we all have grease under our fingernails by lunch. We’ve been here in this shop for a long time, taking on whatever engineering jobs come through the door. It might be a small part for a car or a larger frame for a local builder. We don't have a receptionist; you just walk in and talk to whoever isn't currently wearing a welding mask. The neighborhood is full of workshops like ours, so there’s always someone nearby if we need to borrow a specific gauge or a bit of scrap metal. We keep a ledger on a dusty desk near the front to track the jobs, though half the notes are written in pencil and are hard to read. We aren't worried about being fancy. We just want to make sure the parts we make are solid and that the measurements are right. It’s loud, it’s messy, and it’s a lot of hard work, but we like the feeling of actually building things with our hands every day.
