Sri Lakshmi Screen Printing

We are based at No. 4/117- A in the T. S. R. Layout, right on 6th Street. If you know where Chitra Clinic is on Kongu Main Road, we are just a short walk from there. Our shop is always smelling like ink and cleaning fluids, which is something you just get used to after a week of working here. We do a lot of screen printing for different people in the community. There are screens leaning against almost every wall, and the drying racks take up most of the floor space in the middle. We have to be careful when walking around so we don't smudge anything that’s still wet. It’s a small operation, mostly just family and a couple of helpers from the neighborhood. We spend a lot of time mixing colors to get them just right, though sometimes we have to try a few times before it looks okay on the fabric. The lighting in the back is a bit dim, so we do the fine work near the front door where the sunlight comes in. Kongu Main Road is always noisy with buses and bikes, but we don't mind it much. It feels like being in the middle of everything. We’ve been doing this for years, and even though our hands are always stained with different colors, we like seeing the final prints stacked up ready to go. We don't have a showroom, just the workspace where all the work happens. It's crowded but we manage fine.
