Sree Mookambikai Driving School

We are based out in Avadi, Chennai. If you live around here, you’ve probably seen our cars with the 'L' boards driving slowly around the backstreets. Our little office is just a simple room where we keep the registers and the theory books. It's usually a bit humid, so the ceiling fan is always on full speed. We spend most of our time sitting in the passenger seat, helping people find the clutch point. It’s a lot of 'slow down' and 'look in the mirror.' Avadi has some tricky junctions, so we spend a lot of time practicing there. We don't have a big fleet, just a few reliable cars that we try to keep in good shape. They get a bit beaten up with all the gear grinding, but that’s expected. We start the first lessons as soon as the sun comes up. It's the best time because the roads are empty and the air is still cool. By midday, it’s too hot to think, but we keep going anyway. We aren't a big corporate chain. It’s just us teaching the locals how to get around safely. We know most of the traffic cops in the area by name. Sometimes we stop for a break at a small tiffin center near the station. It’s honest work and we like seeing someone finally drive off on their own. The paperwork for the licenses is a bit of a headache, but we help where we can.
