Sree Jayalakshmi Hardware

Running Sree Jayalakshmi Hardware keeps us on our feet all day long. The shop is right at 41, Kundrathur Main Road in Moulivakkam. If you walk in you will see rows of shelves packed with just about everything you can think of for a house. We have drawers full of screws and nails that sometimes get mixed up when we are busy. The traffic on Kundrathur Main Road is always noisy so we have to shout a bit to hear the customers. It is a small space and things are stacked quite high. Sometimes it takes a minute to find the right size of PVC pipe or a specific wrench someone is looking for. We don’t have a big computerized system so we rely on what we know is in the back room. Moulivakkam has changed a lot since we started but the hardware needs stay the same. People come in with broken parts asking if we have a match and we do what we can to help them out. The floor gets dusty from the cement bags we keep near the door. We usually have tea in the afternoon while waiting for the next person to come in. It’s a simple life behind the counter. We don’t do much advertising because the local builders already know the shop is here. We just try to keep the basics in stock so nobody has to drive too far for a simple bolt or a washer. It gets hot in the afternoons but the ceiling fan helps.
