Sparta Engineering Works

The sound of machines is something you get used to when you work at Sparta Engineering Works. We are located at No. 19 Bajanai Kovil Street in Alathoor, Avadi. It’s a dusty part of town, and our workshop usually has a layer of metal shavings on the floor by noon. We spend our hours cutting, welding, and fixing things that people bring to us. It’s not the kind of place where you want to wear nice clothes. Most of us have grease under our fingernails and soot on our shirts. Bajanai Kovil Street is a quiet enough place, but our shop is definitely the loudest one on the block. We have some heavy equipment that’s been with us for a long time, and it still runs well enough. There’s no lobby or air-conditioned waiting room here. If you come by, you’ll probably find us hunched over a workbench or moving some steel pipes around. We don't talk much while the machines are running because you can't hear anything anyway. We just use hand signals and keep working. When the power goes out, which happens sometimes, we just sit outside in the shade until it comes back. It’s hard work, but there is something nice about finishing a piece and seeing it actually work. We’ve been in Avadi for a good while and the neighbors don't seem to mind the noise too much. It is just honest work that keeps us busy.
