South Tools

Errabalu Chetty Street is one of those old, narrow streets where everything happens at once. South Tools is at No. 36. It’s a tall, old building with a lot of character and history. The stairs are a bit steep and the hallways are quite narrow. We’ve been in this part of the neighborhood for decades now. It’s always crowded outside with people pushing carts and motorbikes weaving through the crowd. You can hear the sounds of the busy street all day long through the windows. Our shop is filled with all sorts of things. It’s not a modern showroom with bright lights. Everything is stacked on old wooden shelves that have been here as long as I can remember. We know our regular customers by name. They come in for specific items they know they can’t find anywhere else. It’s a bit dark inside the shop, but we have enough lights to see what we’re doing. No. 36 is a familiar spot for anyone who works in this trade. We don't have a fancy website or anything like that. We just open up the shutters in the morning and stay until the work is finished. It gets very hot in the summer months, especially with the air blocked by all these tall buildings. We just keep the ceiling fans going. It’s an honest way to make a living. Errabalu Chetty Street is part of who we are. We wouldn't want to move elsewhere.
