South Side Kitchen Private Limited

We run this kitchen out of PK 12 in the SIDCO industrial estate here in Chennai. It’s a busy spot with all the factories around us, so there is always something going on. We started South Side Kitchen Private Limited because we just wanted to make food for the people working nearby. Most days are pretty loud with the machinery outside but inside we just focus on the pots and pans. It's not a fancy place at all. You won't find any designer chairs or anything like that. Just some heavy tables and the smell of spices. People come in from the industrial units looking for a meal that hits the spot. We spend a lot of time getting the rice right and making sure the vegetables are fresh from the morning market. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy and we have to watch the door so the water doesn't come in too much. We’ve been at this address for a while now and we know most of the guys who work in the neighboring units by their first names. It is hard work being in the kitchen all day especially when the humidity in Chennai gets high. But it's what we do. We don't have a big marketing team or a social media manager posting pictures every hour. It's just us in the back making sure the food is ready when the lunch whistle blows. We keep things simple and try to get the orders out fast.
