Singapore 2000

Singapore 2000 is situated at No 105, Paper Mills Road, Perambur, right near the Chembium Police Station. People often use the police station as a landmark to find us. We’ve been here for a long time, and the shop has become a bit of a fixture on Paper Mills Road. We sell a variety of items, mostly things people need for their homes or daily lives. It’s not a huge store, so we have to use every bit of shelf space we have. Sometimes things are stacked almost to the ceiling. Perambur is a busy part of the city, and the foot traffic past our door is constant. We start the day by sweeping the front and getting the displays ready. It’s just a few of us working here. We know the rhythms of the neighborhood—when the schools let out and when the office workers head home. The shop doesn't have air conditioning, so it gets quite warm in the afternoons, but the ceiling fans keep the air moving. We don't do much in the way of advertising. Most of our customers are people who have lived in Perambur their whole lives. They know where we are and what we carry. We just keep things steady and try to be helpful when someone is looking for something specific. It’s a quiet life, mostly, just keeping the shop running and talking to the regulars who stop by.
