Shree Arunachala Engineering Works

Our workshop, Shree Arunachala Engineering Works, is located at Plot No.38/3 in Padavattamman Nagar. This is right in the Ambattur area, which is very industrial. We are near the Sidco Area, so there are always sounds of machinery and trucks moving all day long. The plot is mostly taken up by the workshop floor where we do all the physical labor. It’s not a quiet place. There is always the sound of grinding or metal hitting metal. We don’t have a fancy office; it’s just a small desk in the corner where we keep the logs and papers. Padavattamman Nagar is a busy place for people who work with their hands. We usually start very early in the morning before the heat of the day becomes too much to handle under the tin roof. The ground is often covered in metal shavings, so we have to sweep it up several times a day to keep things safe. Being near the Sidco Area means we are surrounded by other people doing similar work. We often talk to the workers from the neighboring plots during lunch. It’s a grit-under-the-fingernails kind of job. We don’t have any slick brochures or anything like that. People just know where Plot No.38/3 is when they need something repaired or built. It’s hard work, but it’s what we do here in Ambattur every day.
