S M Organic Farms

If you walk down Jai Sankar Street in West Mambalam, you will find us at New No. 3. S M Organic Farms is a small operation tucked away in this quiet corner of Chennai. It is a narrow street, so it can be a bit of a squeeze when we get deliveries, but the neighbors are used to us by now. We mostly spend our time sorting through the fresh produce that comes in from the farms. The air inside our little shop usually smells like fresh greens and earth. We don't have any fancy refrigerated displays, just some simple racks and baskets. People from the neighborhood stop by throughout the day to see what is fresh. It is a very local vibe; we know most of our regulars by name and often chat about the weather while we weigh their vegetables. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we try to get most of the heavy work done early in the morning. We don't have a big marketing budget or a website with lots of photos. We just put out what we have and people come because they know it's simple and real. Sometimes we run out of things early and have to close up for a bit, but that is just how it goes with organic stuff. It is a very humble way to earn a living, right here in the heart of Mambalam.
