Pranav Furniture sits right on the 100 Feet Road in Vadapalani, which is about as busy as a road can get. We’re at number 58/4, and you can’t miss us because there’s usually a sofa or a dining table being moved across the sidewalk. The shop is deep and a bit dark toward the back where we keep the larger wardrobes. We don't use a lot of fancy lighting, just some basic tubes on the ceiling that flicker occasionally. The floor is concrete, and it’s seen a lot of wear from dragging heavy pieces of teak and rosewood around. Most of us here have callouses on our hands from handling the timber and the tools. We don't have a marketing team or anyone like that. It’s just a few of us who know how to put a chair together so it doesn't wobble. When someone walks in, they’re usually looking for something sturdy that will last twenty years. We show them what we have, tell them the price, and that’s about it. There’s no pressure. The traffic on 100 Feet Road is a constant hum in the background of everything we do. By the time we pull the shutters down at night, we’re covered in a thin layer of sawdust and ready for a meal. It’s just honest work in a busy part of Chennai, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time.
