The Sidco Industrial Estate in Ambattur is a huge place, but we’re at Plot No-19/A. It’s a typical engineering unit. There’s a lot of grease on the floor and the smell of cut metal everywhere. We’ve been here for years, through the heavy rains and the heatwaves. The roof is made of tin, so when it rains, you can’t hear yourself think. We just keep working through it. Our machines are old but they still work fine if you know how to handle them. Most of our staff have been doing this since they were young. They know the sounds of the motors and can tell when something is wrong just by listening. We don't have a fancy lobby for visitors. You just walk through the main gate and find someone in blue overalls. Chennai’s humidity is no joke, especially in an estate like this with no breeze. We drink a lot of water and keep the fans going. It’s honest work. We make parts, we fix things, and we send them out. There’s no mystery to it. We don't spend time on fancy brochures or advertisements. Our work speaks for itself when it gets delivered to the client. It’s just engineering in a dusty corner of Ambattur, and we’re okay with that. The tea shop at the corner is where we all meet after the shift ends to wind down.
