Nellai Scrap Mart

Started this place a while back in Perumbakkam. We're on Poonga Road, right at 1st Street. It's just a regular yard where we take in things people don't need anymore. Mostly old metal and things that just take up space at home. It gets dusty here and the trucks come in and out all day. My name is on the gate, and we've been sitting at No 1/2 for some time now. People around here know where we are because of the pile of stuff outside. We don't do anything fancy. Just weighing things and moving them along to where they can be used again. Sometimes it’s quiet, other times there’s a line of people with old iron or copper. We stay open until the work is done. It's hard work, getting your hands dirty and sorting through what others throw away, but it's what we do. Perumbakkam has changed a lot, but Nellai Scrap Mart is still in the same spot. If you pass the first street, you’ll see us. It’s not a big office with air conditioning, just a workspace with a lot of heavy lifting. We handle the local scrap and keep the place running as best as we can. It’s just how we make a living. Nothing more to it than that. We're part of the neighborhood, I guess. People drop by, we talk for a minute, and then get back to the scales.
