Murugappa Driving School

Murugappa Driving School is located right in the heart of Mylapore on Kutchery Road. We are at number 25, and you will see us pretty easily because we are near the Karur Vysya Bank. Mylapore is an old part of Chennai with a lot of history and very tight streets, which makes it an interesting place to learn to drive. We have been doing this for years, helping the local residents get their licenses. Our office is just a plain room where we do the registrations and keep the logbooks for the cars. It’s not a polished place, but it serves its purpose. We spend our days navigating the traffic near the temples and the markets. It takes a lot of patience to teach driving in an area as crowded as this, but we have plenty of that. The cars are basic and we maintain them ourselves for the most part. We know all the little shortcuts and the best times to avoid the worst of the congestion. Most of our students are from right here in the neighborhood. They come in, we have a chat about their schedule, and then we head out onto Kutchery Road to start the lesson. It’s a very grounded way to make a living, and we like the rhythm of the city and the people we meet every day. Even with the bank right there, it still feels like an old-fashioned neighborhood business.
