Mercury Skills Enrichment Academy

If you find yourself on Kamarajar Street in the Vijayanagaram part of Medavakkam, you’ll probably see our sign for Mercury Skills Enrichment Academy. We are at 8/375, and it’s a decent enough building, though the stairs are a bit steep if you aren’t used to them. I spend most of my time in the main room where we have the chairs set up for the students. Medavakkam has changed a lot lately with so many new buildings going up, but our street still feels like a neighborhood. The academy is where people come to learn things that might help them get a better job or just improve themselves. It’s not a big university campus; it’s more like a few rooms with whiteboards and some old desks. I usually arrive early to make sure the place is clean and the lights are working. Sometimes the water cooler acts up and I have to spend twenty minutes fixing it before anyone gets here. The traffic on the main road can be heard from the windows, but once we get started with a lesson, everyone mostly ignores it. I’ve noticed that people around here are really eager to learn new skills, which makes the long hours feel worth it. We don’t have any fancy marketing people or a big office staff. It’s just us trying to share what we know in this corner of Vijayanagaram. Sometimes the local students bring us snacks to share during the breaks.
