Mercury Carving Works

We are located at No:477 on E.H Road in S.A. Colony. It’s right across from ABR Mahal in Vyasarpadi. Mercury Carving Works is a place where there is always dust in the air and the sound of tools hitting wood or stone. It’s not a quiet office environment at all. We spend our days hunched over workbenches, trying to get the details just right. It’s physically tiring work and our hands are usually pretty rough by the end of the week. We didn't start this to get rich; we just like making things with our hands. The workshop is full of half-finished pieces and scraps that we might use later. It’s not the most organized place, but we know where everything is. People come to us because they want something that isn’t made by a machine in a factory. They see us working when they walk by on E.H Road. We don't have a website with fancy photos or anything. Most people just see what we’re doing and stop in to ask questions. It’s a slow process, carving things out bit by bit, and you can’t really rush it. Sometimes a piece breaks or the grain isn’t right, and you just have to start again. That is just how carving works. We’ve been in Vyasarpadi for a long time now and like the community here, even with all the noise and the hard work we do every single day.
