Century Hardwares

Century Hardwares is tucked away at No.5/9 on Vanier Street. If you’ve ever been down this street, you know it’s a tight fit for cars, so most people just walk. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of metal parts, tools, and things you’d need for home repairs. It smells like oil and iron in here, which is something I’ve grown to like over the years. My dad opened this place and I’ve been helping out since I was a kid. It’s a bit of a mess if I’m being honest, but I generally know where everything is hidden. If someone asks for a specific size of screw, I can usually find it in a few minutes, even if it’s at the bottom of a tin. We don’t have a website or any of that modern stuff. People just come to the counter and tell us what broke. We have an old radio that stays on the same station all day. Vanier Street has changed a lot, but our little corner stays pretty much the same. We have regulars who have been coming here for twenty years. It’s not a glamorous job, and my hands are always dirty by lunchtime, but it’s a good way to stay busy. We just keep the doors open and help whoever walks in with a problem they need to fix.
