Being based in Chennai means things are always moving fast. We’ve been operating Manpower Services out of this city for a while now, helping people find work and helping companies find the help they need. It’s a lot of talking on the phone and looking through stacks of papers. We don't have a permanent office that stays exactly the same for twenty years; we just focus on the task at hand here in Tamil Nadu. The weather is usually very hot, so we keep the fans going all day. Some days are incredibly busy with people coming in and out, asking about jobs or looking for new staff. Other days are quieter, and we just catch up on emails and filing. We don't use a lot of fancy software. Mostly, we rely on knowing people and remembering who is good at what. It’s a very human business when you think about it. You meet all kinds of characters, from young kids looking for their first job to older folks wanting a change. We try to be helpful, even if we don't always have an immediate answer. It’s just us, a couple of desks, and a lot of phone calls. We don't put on a show or act like a big corporate entity. We're just a local group trying to make things work in a city that never really stops. We've been doing this for a long time and we plan to keep at it for a while.
