We’re over at No. 1 Bhavani Street in Bharat Nagar, which is part of the Ganga Nagar Extension in Madipakkam. Es Sundaram And Sons is a family-run kind of thing. My father started it, and now we’re all involved in one way or another. We work with various types of stone and materials. It’s not a glamorous life, being surrounded by heavy slabs and dust all day, but it’s what we do. Madipakkam has grown a lot since we first set up shop here. We remember when there were fewer houses and more open space. Now, No. 1 Bhavani Street is right in the middle of a busy residential area. We try not to make too much noise, but cutting stone can be loud. We don't have a fancy mission statement or a marketing department. We just try to be helpful when people come by looking for stone for their kitchens or floors. Sometimes we run out of a certain type and have to wait for more to come in, which can be frustrating. But that’s just how the business goes. We’re just normal people working a normal job. If you come by, you’ll probably see one of us out front. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big talk. We just want to keep the family business going for another generation. That’s why we stay dedicated to the work every day.
