Kushal Traders

Armenian Street is one of those places where you really have to watch where you walk. We are at 2/2, right in the thick of things in Parrys. Kushal Traders has been in this building for years. The walls are thick and it stays a bit cooler inside, which is a blessing in the Chennai heat. Most of our day is spent on the phone or writing out bills. We have stacks of paper everywhere. It might look like a mess to someone else, but we know exactly where each receipt is. The street outside is narrow, so when the deliveries arrive, we have to move fast. There’s no room for a truck to sit there for long. We drink a lot of tea here, usually from the guy who walks around with the big thermos. It helps pass the time when things are slow. We deal with all sorts of people, from big buyers to small shop owners. Some of them have been dealing with us since my father’s time. We don’t do much advertising. People just find us or they get told about us by someone else. The stairs up to the office are a bit steep, so we tell everyone to be careful. We just try to keep the business going without too much fuss. It’s a lot of work keeping up with the stock levels, especially when things get busy before the festival seasons. We aren't doing anything fancy here, just basic trading that keeps the bills paid and the customers coming back.
