We are located over at the Periyar Building on EVK Sampath Road. It is a sturdy old building and we have got our small space at No.56/2. Running a food business like Kancheepuram S.M. Foods takes up most of our waking hours. We focus on getting the basics right without making a big fuss about anything. The office is usually stacked with papers and the sound of the machines is always humming in the background. It is not a glamorous setup, but it works for what we need to do. Chennai can be quite humid, so we try to keep the workspace as cool as we can while we handle the inventory and packing. Most of the staff live nearby, so we have become a bit of a small family over the last few years. We deal with various suppliers every morning, sometimes arguing over prices and quality like everyone else in this trade. It is a private limited company on paper, but on the ground, it is just a group of regular people making sure the food reaches where it needs to go. Sometimes things get delayed or a machine breaks down, and we just fix it and move on with the day. We do not spend money on fancy signs or advertisements because word of mouth usually does enough for us. It is a straightforward operation here. We just want to do our jobs well and go home to our families.
