We’ve been here at No 59, Ramaswamy Street for a long time now. If you know Parrys, you know how it gets in the mornings. It is loud and there are people everywhere moving boxes. We open up the shop early because that is when most of the work happens. Our desks are a bit old and cluttered with notebooks. We spend most of the day talking to people who come in asking about prices or checking their orders. Sometimes the electricity goes for a bit and we just sit there talking until it comes back. It gets very hot in the afternoons, so we have a small table fan that works okay. We don't really have a big fancy sign or anything. Most people know us because they’ve been coming here for years. We handle all the loading and unloading right here on the street. It’s a bit of a squeeze when the trucks come but we manage somehow. My nephew helps with the books now, which is good because my eyes aren't what they used to be. We keep things simple. There’s always someone stopping by for a chat or to ask for directions since we are in such a busy spot. We just focus on getting the orders right and making sure the inventory is where it should be. It’s a lot of manual work, moving things around and keeping track of everything. We don't use much fancy software, just the usual way of doing things that has worked for us.
