Jeya Lakshimi Foods

Our place, Jeya Lakshimi Foods, is over at 3/7 A on Jawahar Street. We’re just off Mudichur Road in the Manimangalam area. It’s a bit of a trek if you’re coming from the main city, but we like it here. We handle food products, which means there’s always something going on in the back. The building isn’t very new, so we’re always fixing a leaky tap or painting a wall. We don’t really have a front desk or a receptionist. If you walk in, you’ll probably just see one of us middle of doing something else. We use simple tools and keep the floor swept as much as we can. Working with food keeps us busy all day long. Sometimes the smells from whatever we’re packing drift out into the street. We’ve known the people on Jawahar Street for years, so it feels like a big family most of the time. We don’t use any fancy systems to track things, just some old notebooks and a lot of memory. It works for us. We just want to make sure the food is handled right and gets to the families who buy it. It’s not a high-speed corporate life, just a regular day-to-day routine. We start early when it’s still cool outside and usually finish up around sunset when the streetlights come on and things finally start to slow down.
