Jay Engineering Industries

Our shop is located at No. 26 A, Iyamperumal Street. Royapettah is a lively neighborhood and this street is tucked away a bit. Jay Engineering Industries is basically a workshop. There’s always the sound of metal hitting metal or some machine humming in the background. It’s not the quietest place to work but we’re used to it. My father started this long ago and I just kept it going. We have grease on our hands most days. The floor is concrete and has some oil stains that won't come out. We deal with various engineering parts and repairs. It’s honest work. Sometimes a customer comes in with a broken piece of equipment and we have to figure out how to fix it. We don't have a big front office or a receptionist. If you walk in, you’ll probably see one of us working at a lathe or a bench. Iyamperumal Street is narrow, so parking a big truck is nearly impossible. We usually have to unload everything by hand. It keeps us fit, I guess. We have a small corner with a desk where we keep the bills and the phone. It gets dusty because of all the metal shavings, but we sweep up every evening. It’s a simple life running a workshop in Royapettah. We just take it one job at a time and try to finish before it gets too dark. We don't have many fancy lights in here because the sun comes through the door.
