You can find us on Palayakkaran Street in Kodambakkam, right here in Chennai. If you know this area, you know how narrow and busy the streets can get. This Icici Bank branch is right in the thick of it. It’s often humid and loud, with the sounds of the city constantly drifting through the doors. We don't have a very large office, so it can feel a bit cramped when there are more than five people waiting. We are just a group of regular people working here, trying to keep up with all the transactions and requests. There is always a lot of talking going on, mostly in Tamil, as we explain different things to our customers. We don't use any corporate jargon or fancy slogans. We just focus on the task at hand, whether it is updating a book or processing a loan application. The floors get a bit muddy during the monsoon, and we are constantly tidying up the leaflets that people leave behind. It is a very normal, slightly messy, but honest kind of workplace. We have our regulars who come in just to chat for a minute while they do their banking. We like that it feels local. We aren't some distant corporation to the people here; we are just the folks on Palayakkaran Street who handle the money. It’s a busy life, but it keeps us on our toes every single day. We are just getting on with it as best as we can.
