Our office is on K K S Street, right at number 30 22, near the Railway Road in Kanchipuram. It is a narrow street and can get quite crowded with people walking to the station. We have a small sign outside so people do not miss us when they are rushing by. Inside, there is a counter and a couple of rooms where we keep the computers and files. The ceiling fan spins all day to keep the heat away, and there is a faint smell of old paper everywhere. We usually start the day by cleaning the desks and checking the mail that came in. There are five of us working here right now. We drink a lot of coffee because it is easy to get from the shop next door. The furniture is a bit old, with some scratches on the wooden tables, but it does the job for us. We do not have a lot of fancy decorations, just a clock on the wall that is always five minutes fast. Most people who come in are regulars from the neighborhood. We talk about the weather or the train schedules while we look for their records. It is a noisy place because of the trains and the motorbikes, but we are used to it by now. We close up the shop in the evening and walk home when the sun goes down and it gets a bit cooler.
