We are the administrative side of the Government College of Engineering, and you can find us at No 9 5, 11th Kannadasan Street. This is in the Nesapakam area of Chennai, postcode 78. It’s a bit away from the main campus noise, tucked into Dr. Kanu Nagar. The office here handles a lot of the paperwork and student queries that come up during the semester. It’s a typical Chennai building, meaning it gets quite warm, and we rely heavily on the ceiling fans to keep us going through the afternoon. The street outside can be a bit narrow, so parking is always a bit of a puzzle for anyone visiting. We have a lot of old files stacked up in the corners because the government likes to keep a paper trail for everything. Most of the staff has been working here for years, so we have our own way of doing things that might seem a bit slow to outsiders, but we get there in the end. We see a lot of students and parents walking in with various forms and applications. We try to help them out as much as the rules allow. It’s not a high-tech environment, just a lot of desks, pens, and stacks of documents. We take our lunch breaks together and talk about the local news or what’s happening in the neighborhood. It’s a steady, predictable kind of work life here in Nesapakam.
