Down on New Avadi Road in Kilpauk, we’ve got our shop set up for Durga Bearings. If you know anything about machinery, you know how much a bad bearing can mess things up. We spend our days surrounded by metal parts and boxes of all sizes. It’s a dusty, hands-on kind of job, and our hands are rarely clean by the time evening rolls around. We’ve been at No.39 for a long time now, so most of the mechanics and factory guys in the area know where to find us. We don’t do a lot of talking; we mostly just help people find the specific part they need for their equipment. Whether it's for a small motor or something much bigger, we usually have a way to get it. It’s not a fancy office with air conditioning and soft chairs. It’s a warehouse and a counter where we deal with people face-to-face. Sometimes it gets hectic when a big order comes in or when someone is in a rush because their machine broke down. We just keep a steady pace and try to stay organized, even when the shelves get crowded. It’s a specialized trade, and we’ve learned a lot over the years just by looking at what customers bring in. We’re just local people providing parts to keep the local industry moving. It’s what we do, day in and day out, making sure no machine stays idle for too long.
