Alberts Cafe

You can find us at No 1 14 Ponnusamy Street in New Washermenpet. It’s a local neighborhood in Chennai and we’ve been part of the street for a bit now. We aren't one of those big coffee chains you find in the malls. We are just a small cafe where you can get a decent drink and something to eat without spending too much money. The shop is simple, with some chairs and tables that we probably need to paint again soon. It gets a bit loud in the afternoons when the school kids and workers are heading home, but we like the energy. We spend our mornings getting the kitchen ready and making sure the coffee beans are fresh. Sometimes the oven acts up or we run out of a certain snack, but we just make do. It’s a family-style place, really. We know a lot of our customers by their first names and how they like their tea or coffee. We don't have a menu that's twenty pages long, just the things we know how to make well. The street outside is always full of life, and we like keeping the doors open to catch whatever breeze there is. It’s just a place to sit for a minute and take a break from the Chennai sun. We try to keep things clean and friendly for everyone who walks through the door on Ponnusamy Street.
