If you know Mylapore, you know how these streets are. It is all narrow lanes and lots of people walking everywhere. Our office is right here in the heart of Chennai 600004. We have been teaching people to drive in these tight spaces for quite some time now. It’s a bit of a challenge, honestly. Most of the time, I am sitting in the passenger seat, hoping the student doesn’t stall the engine right in front of a temple crowd. The heat in Chennai can be something else, so we try to get the driving done before the sun gets too high, but that’s not always possible. The office is just a small room where we keep the registers and some old charts about road signs. It isn't anything fancy. People stop by to ask about licenses or just to complain about how bad the traffic has gotten lately. We go through a lot of tea while we wait for the next person to arrive for their lesson. The cars get a lot of wear and tear on these roads, but we keep them running. It is a very local business. We know the shortcuts and which roads to avoid during the festival times. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting, then a lot of nerves once we get behind the wheel with a beginner. We just keep at it, day after day, helping people get their licenses and learn the basic rules of the road.
