If you go right opposite the Uthandi bus stop, you’ll find us at No. 1/105 on Bajanaikoil Street. That’s where Chettinad Foods India Private Limited is based. Being so close to the bus stop makes it easy for our staff to get here, even if the road gets really crowded on weekends. We focus on traditional food styles, mostly the kind of stuff you’d find in a proper Chettinad kitchen. It’s a lot of grinding spices and mixing recipes that have been around for ages. The building we are in is an older style, which kind of fits what we do. It’s not air-conditioned throughout, so it can get quite warm when the stoves are going. We don't use a lot of fancy machinery; we prefer doing things by hand where it makes a difference in the taste. Everyone who works here knows how to handle the spices. We’re a bit picky about where we get our ingredients from. If the chilies aren't right, we don't buy them. It’s just a small group of us working in Uthandi. We don't have a big sign outside, just the address on the door. Most people find us by word of mouth or by seeing the van parked out front. We just want to keep making food that tastes like it should. It’s a long day, but it’s worth it. We hope it shows.
