Chethan Engineering Services

We've been here at 3/7 Nn Lakshmi Street for a while now. It’s a busy corner in Janaki Nagar, Valasaravakkam. Chethan Engineering Services is basically just a few of us working on metal parts and machines every day. Usually, the morning starts with opening up the shutters and seeing what came in the day before. The shop isn't fancy. There’s grease on the floor and tools everywhere, but that’s how we know where everything is. Sometimes the rain makes the street a bit messy, but customers still find their way to us. We handle a lot of different engineering jobs, mostly just whatever the locals or nearby businesses need fixed or fabricated. You might hear the lathes running if you walk by in the afternoon. It gets hot inside during the summer, but we keep the fans going and just get on with it. There is always some welding to do or some measurements to double-check. It isn't a corporate office with air conditioning and quiet halls. It’s noisy and smells like oil, which is fine by us. We just try to get the dimensions right and finish the work before the sun goes down. Most of the time, we are just busy with the lathes and drills. It’s a straightforward way to make a living here in Valasaravakkam. We don't spend much time on the computer unless we have to check a drawing or something like that. Usually, we are just at the bench. It's a lot of hard work.
