About British Letters & Neons – Safety & Security in Chennai
If you go down Pudupet Garden Street in Royapettah, you’ll find us at number 3. We are quite close to the Music Academy, which is a big deal around here, especially during the festival season. British Letters & Neons has been in this spot for a bit, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the neighborhood. It’s an old part of town, so the streets are narrow and full of character. Inside the shop, it’s all about the neon and the metalwork. We have glass tubes and transformers scattered around, and the smell of solder is pretty much always in the air. It’s not a sterile environment; it’s a workshop through and through. We spend a lot of time bending glass or painting letters by hand. It takes a lot of patience and some burnt fingertips now and then. Sometimes the humidity in Royapettah makes the paint dry slower than we’d like, but we just work around it. We don’t have a fancy website or a marketing department. People usually hear about us from someone else or just see our sign while they’re walking toward the academy. It’s a hands-on life, and we like it that way. We keep the doors open mostly to let the breeze in, and you can hear the sounds of the street while we work. It’s just us doing what we know how to do, day in and day out.
