Balu Engineering Works

Our workshop is at New No 1, which used to be Old No 142, on Gandhinagar Main Road in Ekkaduthangal. The numbering change still confuses some people, but we are in the same spot we have always been. We do all sorts of engineering repairs and small-scale fabrication. It is mostly me and two other guys working here. We have a couple of old lathes that still run perfectly fine despite their age. The shop is on a very busy road, so there is a constant hum of buses and cars passing by our door. We do a lot of work for the small factories nearby that need parts fixed quickly. It is often a bit messy with oil spills on the floor and metal shavings everywhere, but we try to clean up at the end of every week. We don't really have a set schedule; if a job needs to be finished, we just stay until it is done. Sometimes we get projects that are a bit unusual, like fixing a part of a printing machine or welding a broken bicycle frame. We take whatever comes through the door. We don't spend money on fancy signs or paint. We just keep our heads down and focus on the welding and the turning. It’s a basic shop where we do practical work for anyone who needs it in the Ekkaduthangal area.
