Annai Brick Industries

Annai Brick Industries is over at 74, Periyar Nagar. We are right in Tiruvottiyur, very close to Vellayan Chetti High School. You can hear the school bell ringing all day from where we stand in the yard. It is a busy neighborhood with kids running around and people going to work. Our gate is usually open from early morning. We have stacks of bricks piled high along the wall. It is a bit cramped sometimes because we have a lot of stock to move and not much space to do it. The dust from the bricks settles on the leaves of the bushes nearby. We spend a lot of time just organizing the different batches. If you come by, you will probably see us with dirt on our faces. We do not wear uniforms or anything like that. Just old clothes that we do not mind getting ruined. Working near the school means we have to be careful when the buses are coming and going. The traffic on that road can be a real headache in the afternoon. We have a small bench near the entrance where we sit and take a break. Usually, we just talk about the weather or how the local cricket team is doing. It is not a complicated life. We just make sure the bricks are where they need to be. Most of our days are spent waiting for the trucks to arrive.
