Ambal Bricks Works

Ambal Bricks Works is based right at 73, Appar Swamy Koil Street in Thiruvotiyur. If you have ever been down this street, you know it can get pretty tight with all the traffic and the people heading toward the temple. We have been working out of this spot for a while now. The salt air from the coast isn't too far away, and sometimes you can feel it, but mostly it is just the heat of the city. We spend our days loading up the back of the vehicles and making sure the counts are right. It is a lot of lifting and moving, which keeps us in shape I suppose. The street is always alive with something going on, whether it is a festival or just the daily rush of the neighbors. Our office is just a small room where we keep the fan running as much as possible to deal with the Chennai humidity. We don't have much in the way of decoration, just some calendars and a few stools for when people come in to talk. Handling bricks all day means our clothes are never really clean for long, but that is just the way it goes in this trade. We know the people on Appar Swamy Koil Street and they know us by now. It’s a lot of sweat and heavy lifting, but we just keep at it until the sun goes down.
