Amma Pattani

Amma Pattani is right there at No 60 Jeenis Road in Saidapet. It’s directly opposite the railway station, so it’s always a bit noisy and busy around here. We’ve been in this spot for quite a long time now. The shop is small, mostly just enough room for the counter and a few rows of shelves. We mostly keep snacks and basic grocery items that people might need on their way home. Since the station is right there, we get a lot of people who are just passing through and need something quick. We open the shutters pretty early in the morning because that’s when the first rush starts. It’s a simple business. My family and I run it together. We don’t have any big marketing plans or a fancy website. It’s just about being here every day and making sure we have what people ask for. Sometimes the road gets crowded with autos and buses, and it can be hard to even walk, but we are used to it. We know many of the daily commuters by sight. They don't talk much because they are in a hurry for their train, but they always stop by. The building is old and we have to fix things ourselves now and then. It’s just a regular local shop. We try to keep things fresh and the prices are what you’d expect. Nothing fancy, just us trying to make a living in this busy part of Chennai.
