American Express Bank

Our little branch of American Express Bank is situated on First Street in Pushpa Nagar. Nungambakkam is a pretty central part of Chennai, so there is always something going on outside our door at 12 5. We’ve been here for a while, and the humidity usually keeps us relying on the fans all day long. The office is simple. We have our desks, some filing cabinets that have seen better days, and a couple of computers that sometimes take a minute to start up. We handle a lot of the back-end banking tasks that keep things moving. It isn't a glamorous job, but it’s what we do. We often walk down the street to grab filter coffee during our breaks, which is one of the perks of being in this neighborhood. The people working here are mostly locals, so we speak the language and know how things work around here. We don't have any big marketing displays or posters. We just focus on the ledgers and the customer requests that come through the system. Sometimes the rain gets quite heavy and we worry about the roof, but so far, it’s held up. It’s a practical place for practical work. We just show up, do the tasks, and head home like everyone else in Chennai. It is just a routine for us, keeping the bank's records in order day after day.
