Abudhager Cements

Our office is on the first floor of No 5/2 on Harrington Road. It is located near where Appaseamy Street meets 7th Avenue in the Chetpet area. Cement is a heavy business, and while our main desk is here, there is always a lot of coordination with the trucks and the laborers. The bags are heavy, 50 kilos each, and they leave a fine grey dust on everything if you aren't careful. We spend most of the day on the phone or talking to people about how many bags they need for their house extensions or small repair jobs. Chetpet is a busy part of the city, and the traffic on Harrington Road can get quite backed up during the day. We have stacks of paperwork for the different grades of cement we handle. It is not a glamorous job, just a lot of logistics and making sure the supplies get to the construction sites on time. The office is simple, just some desks and chairs and files everywhere. You can usually hear the sound of the city coming through the windows. Sometimes we have to go out and check on the deliveries ourselves. It’s steady work, and we have become part of the local landscape here over time. Dealing with builders and individuals means every day is a bit different, but it always comes back to the weight and the grit of the cement bags we are moving. We try to keep the floors swept but the dust always finds its way back in.
