Aala Gloves

Down here on Wuthucattan Street in Periamet, you’ll find Aala Gloves. We are at number 55. Periamet is the heart of the leather trade, so there’s always that smell of leather in the air. We’ve been working with gloves for a long time. It’s what we know. The street is narrow and always packed with trucks and carts. Inside our place, it’s mostly stacks of materials and finished pairs waiting to go out. We don’t have any fancy showroom. It’s a workshop atmosphere. Some of us have been here for years, cutting and sewing. It’s hard work on the hands. We deal with different types of gloves, mostly for protection or industrial use. People stop by to check samples or discuss orders. We usually have tea together in the afternoon when the heat is at its worst. It’s a very local way of doing business. We don't use much technology, just the machines and our experience. Sometimes we have to stay late to finish a big batch. That’s just part of the job. It gets noisy with all the activity on the street outside. But we like being in this part of town because everyone is in the same trade. It makes things easier when you need to find a supplier or a part for a machine. We aren't trying to be anything we're not. We just make gloves and try to do it right every day for the people who need them.
