A. Murugesan & Co.

Down on Paramasiva Street in Park Town, things haven't changed much over the years. We are at Old No. 30, and if you saw the building, you’d know it has some history. A. Murugesan & Co. has been here through many seasons. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we are usually too busy with the paperwork and the deliveries to worry about that. It’s a tight street, and getting a truck in here is always a bit of a challenge. We spend a lot of time on the phone, talking to suppliers and checking on where things are stuck. It’s not a glamorous job. There is a lot of dust from the street and the constant sound of horns outside. We have a few old wooden desks and some very old filing cabinets that squeak every time you open them. Most of our customers are locals who have known us for years. We don't do fancy presentations or brochures. If someone asks what we have, we just show them. It’s about just showing up and making sure things get done every morning at the same time. We take our tea breaks together in the small back room. It’s just a group of people trying to run a business in a busy part of Chennai. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know how to do. We just keep it moving one day at a time, making sure we don't forget the small details that keep things running smoothly and keep the shop open.
