Industrial Area Phase I is where our workshop is located at number 692. It is a busy part of town with a lot of noise and trucks moving in and out all day. Inside the shop, the floor is usually a bit oily and there is always a layer of metal dust on the benches. We have several old machines that have been with us for years, along with a couple of newer ones. Most of our time is spent working on parts for other local businesses or fixing bits of machinery that have broken down. It gets quite loud when the lathes are running, so we usually have to shout to be heard. I spend a lot of time with grease on my hands trying to get a measurement exactly right. Engineering isn't always about big complicated designs; often it is just about making sure a simple bolt fits where it should. We keep our tools in heavy metal cabinets, though they are not always as organized as they should be. The air in the shop smells like cutting fluid and cold steel. We don't have a big office staff or anyone to answer the phones constantly, so we usually just talk to customers right there on the shop floor. It is a practical place where we focus on getting the metal work done. We stay busy with the daily grind and that is fine by us.
