It’s a bit of a unique setup because we operate out of a space that feels like a house, but that’s how S. Prabhjit Singh started Punjab Tool Room , Mohali, Chandigarh. We’re right there on the ground floor, and it’s a tight squeeze with all the tools and equipment we have packed in there. This place is really for precision. We don’t do huge bulk manufacturing; it’s more about the specific tools that need to be exactly right. The senior staff are usually the ones checking the measurements because even a tiny mistake means the whole thing is ruined. Being in Chandigarh, we get a lot of local business. It’s a clean city, but our shop is definitely a work zone. We have metal shavings on the floor and the smell of cutting oil in the air. People sometimes get confused by the address since it looks like a residential building, but once you step inside, you see it’s a full-on tool room. We don’t have a big sign or a fancy website. Most of our work comes from word of mouth or people who have known Prabhjit for years. It’s a small operation, just a few of us working hard to get the dimensions perfect. We take our time with each piece because that’s the only way to do it correctly.
